POSTPONED DUE TO WEATHER – reschedule sometime in April/May

The Partnership for a Healthy Durham, housed in the Durham County Dept of Public Health is coordinating the Healthy Mile Trail cleanups around the county and have one scheduled for the Northgate Park trail on Friday, March 22nd. At the cleanups, volunteers collect litter and cleanup debris, re-stencil the HMT logo and signage, cleanup the sidewalk, etc.

Due to the forecast of an inch of rain Sunday, we are going to hold the luminary event THIS Saturday December 16th. 

Feel free to start putting out luminaries in the late afternoon and we will plan light around 5ish.  We still plan to gather under the shelter with finger foods, a fire, and hot chocolate from 5:30 – 6:30. 

With expected rain forecasted for Sunday, if you are able to help clean up luminaries on Sunday morning that would be great hopefully before they become soaked.  

It’s luminary time! Northgate Park Neighborhood Association is sponsoring our annual luminaries in the park again this year! We’re excited to have this magical event on Sunday, December 10 with the beautiful luminaries as well as music from the Durham Chorale and warm beverages. The rain date will be December 17.

We’re looking for neighbors to make the luminaries! Can you volunteer to make a set of 20 luminaries (or more than one set?) Come pick up a set of materials, take it home, and if you’re feeling creative, decorate the bags.

The packs are available in the gazebo behind 2500 Shenandoah Ave (with more detailed instructions). Please feel free to pick up a pack anytime during the daytime. There will be a sheet in the gazebo to sign to help us keep track. Be sure to pick up two bags: one with candles and luminary bags and one with sand to complete your set. This is a great rainy day activity for kids and adults!
